"Debbie Arambula And Ivan Guaderrama"
2 HEART ARTISTS
Those who know Ivan Guaderrama and are familiar with his work can instantly list hearts as one of his most signature additions to most of his artwork. Guaderrama believes in the power of love; love for one’s God, family, and spouse. He’s spoken several times on the usage of his hearts and it continues to bring in new audiences and fans.
Interestingly enough, just on the other side of the border, anyone who knows Debbie Arambula and is familiar with her work also knows of her use of hearts in their artwork. Her paintings promote love and utilize hearts in the warmest of ways.
The two have simultaneously created similar styles, sweeping hearts and vibrant colors that create a smile in any art lover. While one paints away in Mexico, and the other in California there is still one consistent fact, both paint from the soul and the outcome is something truly pure.
Noticing their similarities, Guaderrama reached out to Arambula and on a recent visit to Cabo Arambula joined Guaderrama in his gallery to create a piece together. For both artists, this was a major event, considering neither had ever collaborated with another artist on a piece before. The two discussed their passion for art and their inspiration. Guaderrama introduces Arambula to one of his signature techniques, which took over a decade to cultivate. Through that technique the two stood side by side in Guaderrama’s San Jose del Cabo Gallery and began to make a blank canvas come to life.
Completely void of ego, competition, or occupational dilemma, the two prolific artists bonded and used their talent to create a stunning piece that could only require the passion of both to collide.
Guaderrama and Arambula have created a bond and a friendship that will stand the test of time, as the two continue to make plans to collaborate in the future. With the compassionate heart of each artist, talks of co-creating a charity piece are in the works. Until then, Arambula has returned to her home in California while Guaderrama continues to create his pieces in San Jose del Cabo, but the two remain in touch.
"An Artist's Narrow Road"
As artists, we are notoriously self-absorbed. Our creativity is centered around ourselves, and in the beginning I was no different. I belonged to the world, it’s material mentality, and seek to only glorify myself.
As time passed on, I began to feel a longing for something more. No matter my success, or how many people surrounded me I felt a deep loneliness and emptiness. My art felt uninspired, and I began to understand that something was missing. I began to seek different options, trends that others swore by and while some temporary made me feel better nothing could truly heal my soul and keep me from falling into the ways of the world.
Eventually, a friend of mine began to discuss the word of Christ with me. After the number of methods I tried, I couldn’t see how it would hurt to try this, especially after seeing the vast difference it made in his life. I began to study the bible, read books, watch videos, whatever I could to understand Jesus Christ and his teachings. My life began to heal peace by peace, but I wasn’t fully healed yet.
My wife (then girlfriend) and I attended a major Christian conference, which had a powerful worship ceremony. Something in me shifted in that moment. I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit in a way I will never forget. If you are not a follower of Jesus, or a believer, let me take this moment to tell you there is no drug, no human relationship, no material purchase that could ever bring such an overwhelming peace. I opened my heart there and then, and my belief moved from a mental state to an emotional and spiritual state.
Since that day Jesus has overflowed out of my life, into my heart and into my work. My paintings are just another way I worship Him, serve Him and spread his message. He is my creator, and he has blessed me with the power to create, and through that I celebrate him everyday.

Ivan Guaderrama’s “Interactive” Exhibit Mixes Technology with Art
By Divulge Magazine Contributor Jacqueline Paumier
Artist Ivan Guaderrama is no stranger to struggle, nor is he a stranger to the difficulties of making it as an artist. Like his art, Guaderrama chooses to remain positive and optimistic. He believes in investing in the positive over dwelling on the tragedies of life. When asked what could change about the art world, the artist replied that it’s all about perspective.
His newest exhibit, “Interactive,” held in Cabo San Lucas includes a multitude of art pieces all holding their own interactive features. While some paintings change colors and reveal messages through a change in temperature, others use the viewer’s touch and energy to create music. The work instantly stands out as being both entertaining and playful, but there’s a larger message at hand. Interactive art is Guaderrama’s way of saying “it’s not just about me, it’s about all of us.”
“Artists have a way of focusing on the “starving artist” stereotype, but if that’s all you focus on then it’s all you receive. With interactive art I’ve changed the message, it’s not about a moment in my life, it’s as much about the person seeing the painting than it is about me” said Guaderrama.
The Mexican born artist has expanded his interactive portfolio from light- sensitive paintings, to his current work, which utilizes micro-robotic technology. Such a process has required a mass overhaul of studying for the artist, combing heavy scientific knowledge with his creative process.
“If we have the technology today to create a robotic arm that functions like a normal one, what will we have in the future? And how does that apply to art? What will we be able to create?” said Guaderrama.
Guaderrama has been surprising and inspiring art fans for years at his gallery in San Jose del Cabo. His many vibrant paintings have done everything from illuminate to play Coldplay songs. But he isn’t stopping there. He is still thinking of new and innovative ways to draw in user interaction into his work.
“I have plans in the future for art pieces that change their color along with the temperature, becoming a different painting from season to season,” he said. “I would also love the opportunity to create an art piece that involves many people in its creation.”
Interactive Art Comes Alive
True art is created not only by the painter, but by the viewer. The way each individual perceives an art piece, transforms that art piece. We all bring our own culture, background, and experience when approaching and interpreting art, therefore the art becomes what we want it to become.
So it's only appropriate that the viewer should be a part of every art piece, they should be the ones to bring it to life. Which is exactly what Ivan Guaderrama is doing in his newest exhibit "Interactive: Art Comes Alive" taking place in Cabo's infamous Luxury Avenue on April 15th.
Whether you are new to Ivan Guaderrama's art, or have been part of our family for years, you will find a piece that brings a smile and melts your heart.
Letterpress by Ivan Guaderrama
However the letterpress did come with its own distinct style. Many have attempted to replicate the font and lettering of the classic press style to find that on flat, modern day printing paper the effect lacked zeal. Which is why Ivan Guaderramas newest venture of transcribing such a style into his inspirational art work results in a classically impressive piece. The collaboration of traditional lettering used in inspirational phrases with Ivans more modern and brightly colored abstract work creates a piece that is totally original and new while carrying a familiar note. The pieces very in their boldness, some carry a letterpress influence that sits front and center of the piece, unafraid to be in your face. While other have a faint and almost hidden impression in the art work, replicating the light handed effect found on vintage newspapers to avoid the transference of Ink. The theme is sure to be well represented in pieces of inspirational art throughout the course of 2013 and well into 2014.
Contemporary Angel paintings
The second form of Ivan Guaderramas Angel Collection comes in the form of sculptures. Whether standing gracefully with wings relaxed back or spread wide in an impressive and strong stance these Angels grab attention n any home. The process is a personal one as Ivan Guaderrama sculpts each piece by hand using a clay base, the angels then come in a variety of colors and finishes including pewter and resin.
Whether purchasing on of Ivan Guaderramas angels as a personal memento or simply a decorative piece, there is guaranteed a perfect Angel for you here in the Ivan Guaderrama Gallery..
Escultura "Huellas de Esperanza"
Los Cabos is recovering and quickly thanks to all the people who have put their efforts in this hard labor, for that reason the Ivan Guaderrama Art team would like to commemorate the hard work of all the people who helped by creating a sculpture in bronze with your fingerprints embedded, it will be displayed at the Cabo San Lucas marina and at the Galleries District in San Jose del Cabo, with it we show our appreciation for all the effort and dedication.
