Notable Exhibitions and Commissions
For more than two decades, Ivan Guaderrama’s original paintings, sculptures, and interactive augmented-reality works have been exhibited and commissioned by some of the most recognized cultural and hospitality institutions in North America. A selection of public installations and corporate commissions follows.
- NASA — Interactive augmented-reality artwork featured in a NASA program celebrating the intersection of art, science, and technology.
- Empire State Building (New York City) — Augmented-reality painting included in an exhibition exploring innovative contemporary art and emerging immersive technologies.
- Hilton Hotels — Site-specific commissioned artworks installed in select Hilton-branded properties as part of in-room and lobby art programs.
- One&Only Resorts — Commissioned original paintings and limited editions for guest-facing spaces at One&Only Palmilla in Los Cabos and other resort properties.
- Flora Farms (Los Cabos) — Original paintings and interactive AR pieces exhibited at the Flora Farms culinary and cultural destination in San José del Cabo.
- Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center — Group exhibition “The Color of Imagination” (2002) at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center. Ivan earlier studied at the Center under master painter Henry Paul Ally, where he completed his formal training in plastic arts.
Solo Exhibitions
The Ivan Guaderrama Art Gallery’s exhibition history includes a recurring series of solo and curated showings in Mexico and the United States. Recent and documented solo exhibitions include:
- Esperanzarte 2018 — November 2018, Mexico
- Esperanzarte 2017 — November 2017, Mexico
- Colorado 2017 — November 2017, Colorado, USA
- Esperanzarte 2016 — November 2016, Mexico
- Esperanzarte 2015 — November 2015, Mexico
- Art from the Heart — November 2013, opening exhibition for the Heart Series
The Esperanzarte series — held annually for four consecutive years between 2015 and 2018 — represented a focused curatorial line bringing together works of faith, hope, and contemporary technique. Earlier solo and curated shows are catalogued in the gallery’s archive and are available on request to serious collectors and researchers.
Group Exhibitions
In addition to solo showings, Ivan Guaderrama has participated in group exhibitions and collaborative projects since the early 2000s — beginning with The Color of Imagination at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center in 2002 and continuing through Art Walk season showings in San José del Cabo each year from November through June.
The weekly San José del Cabo Art Walk functions as a recurring group showing during the season, with Ivan’s gallery participating alongside the other certified member galleries of the Gallery District Association. The Art Walk season runs every Thursday evening from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, November through June.
Corporate and Hospitality Commissions
A defining thread in the gallery’s history is large-scale commissioned work for corporate, hospitality, and institutional clients. These engagements typically begin with a brief or theme provided by the client, followed by sketch concepts, full-size production in Ivan’s San José del Cabo studio, and installation on site. Commissions for hospitality clients are often delivered as series — coordinated palettes across multiple guest rooms, suites, or public lobbies.
Past hospitality and corporate commissions include site-specific pieces for Hilton Hotels, One&Only Resorts, Flora Farms, and projects associated with NASA and the Empire State Building. Each engagement is approached as an artistic collaboration rather than a transactional purchase — Ivan typically meets the client team during the concept phase and remains involved through installation.
Awards and Recognition
Ivan Guaderrama Art Gallery has been recognized as a top cultural destination in Los Cabos by multiple independent travel and arts publications. The gallery currently holds a Travelers’ Choice 2025 distinction and is consistently ranked among the highest-rated cultural attractions in San José del Cabo — recently listed as the #1 of 55 things to do in San José del Cabo in the largest independent global travel review platform (4.9 average across 300+ reviews).
The gallery has also been featured in Cabo and Baja regional press, cultural tourism guides, and inflight magazines covering the Los Cabos arts scene.

How a Commission Typically Unfolds
Commissioned projects — whether a single residential canvas, a coordinated suite for a hospitality property, or an interactive AR installation for a corporate space — follow a consistent four-stage process that has been refined over more than two decades of practice.
- Brief and concept conversation. A short discovery call or in-studio visit to understand the space, the audience, the theme, the palette, any specific text or scripture references, and the desired emotional register of the piece. For corporate clients this usually includes brand color guidelines, dimensions, and installation context.
- Proposal and timeline. Within one to two weeks, the studio returns a written concept proposal, two or three sketch directions, a materials specification, a fixed price, and a production timeline. Most commissions land in a 4-to-16-week window depending on scale, materials, and the AR component.
- Production in the San José del Cabo studio. Once the concept is approved, the piece is built in Ivan’s studio in San José del Cabo. Client check-ins happen at agreed milestones (typically initial composition, mid-production, and pre-shipment). Photo and video updates are sent at each milestone.
- Shipment, installation, and AR registration. Originals are custom-crated and shipped via tracked international freight, fully insured. For AR-enabled pieces, the augmented-reality layer is registered against the painting before shipment, so the client can experience it immediately on arrival.
Past commission clients span private collectors, hospitality groups, corporate art programs, and institutional buyers across the United States, Mexico, Canada, and Europe. References from past hospitality and corporate engagements are available on request during the proposal phase.
About the Studio in San José del Cabo
The studio behind every exhibition and commission is the Ivan Guaderrama Art Gallery in the historic Art District of San José del Cabo, Mexico. The same physical space serves three functions: a working artist studio where the originals are produced, a public-facing gallery where collectors and visitors can see the full body of work in person, and a small production facility for limited editions, certified canvas reproductions, and AR registration for new pieces.
The studio is open to the public Monday through Saturday and participates every Thursday evening in the November-through-June San José del Cabo Art Walk, when the artist is typically on site to meet visitors, discuss past exhibitions, and walk collectors through commissions in progress.
